Client notes and version 2 in Frame
How Frame applies your client's notes from Send, the ones you do by hand in Resolve, skipping a note, and sending version 2.
Your client leaves notes on Send, each pinned to a moment of the episode: a part to cut, a noise to fix, a clip they want, or a note in words. Frame picks them up and makes the new version for you, apart from the notes only a person can do. Nothing goes back to your client until you send it.
When notes arrive
Frame checks Send every few minutes for every episode waiting on a client, and tells you with a notification when notes arrive. You can also choose Check for notes now on the Waiting on client card.
The card then says Client sent n notes and lists them, with the ones that need you first. Under each note it says who does it:
- Frame does this one: a cut with an in and an out point, a noise to fix, or a clip the client marked.
- Yours, in Resolve: a note only a person can do. That is a note in words, a point with no out point (how much it covers is your call), or a cut whose words ask for something only Resolve can do, such as a reframe, a zoom, a crop, a punch-in, colour, a caption, a title or a lower third.
Your notes, in Resolve
For each note that is yours:
- Choose Open Resolve here. Resolve opens the episode with the playhead on the note's moment.
- Make the change in Resolve.
- Choose Done. If you pressed it too soon, Not done yet takes it back.
Keep the timeline the same length while you work: Frame places the client's other notes by their times, so a trim by hand would move every note after it.
When every note of yours is done, the card offers Apply all.
Skip a note
Choose Skip on any note you are not going to make, and say why in the box: "we kept it, it is the punchline", for example. Your client reads the reason beside their note on Send. The reason can be left empty. A skipped note is never applied, and Put it back undoes the skip. Send keeps the note either way.
Apply all
Choose Apply all n notes. Frame makes the new version in one go and renders it once:
- With no notes done by hand, it is made from the version your client watched: the cuts taken out, the noises repaired, and each clip the client marked made as a vertical clip.
- With notes done by hand, Frame opens Resolve on the episode, renders the timeline with your changes in it, checks each change is there, and makes the rest of the notes on top. Both kinds end up in the one new version.
Frame checks your changes are really there. If a note is marked Done and that moment still looks and sounds as it did in the version your client watched, Frame stops and shows Frame can't see your change at time, and nothing is made or sent. Make the change, or skip the note with a reason.
Notes done by hand can only go into version 2, made from the first round of notes: only version 1 is the Resolve timeline as it stands. On a later round, Frame stops with Frame can't put a change by hand into this version; make that round in the full panel, or skip the notes done by hand.
Send version 2
The card then says Version 2 is made: send it back.
- Choose Watch version 2 first to play it on the card.
- Choose Send version 2. Frame uploads it, Send releases it as the next version and marks the earlier one superseded, and your client gets an email to watch it.
Frame keeps the Mac awake while it renders and uploads; keep it plugged in if you close the lid.
Your client can leave another round of notes on version 2, and Frame picks those up the same way.
A studio stage on Send
If your Send template has a stage of yours before the client's review, the card says Send has episode at stage: that stage waits on you, not the client. Choose Open the job on Send and move the job on when it is ready.
