Clips in Frame
Suggested clips, choosing the ones to keep, checking the captions, caption presets and fonts, and sending the clips with the episode.
When a client orders social clips with an episode, Frame suggests the moments worth clipping, cuts the ones you keep as 9:16 vertical clips, and burns in captions you have checked. The clips go to the client with the final version, for approval.
When it comes up
After the notes, Send passes the job back to you at a stage of your own (Final delivery). If the client ordered clips, the card says Make the clips for client, with how many they ordered and how many are made so far. With no clips ordered, Frame moves the job on to the client's approval by itself.
The number of clips is the client's order on Send.
1. Suggest the clips
Choose Make the clips. Frame writes the episode's transcript on your Mac if it hasn't yet, then suggests the clips worth keeping. Suggesting clips uses 300 credits, once per episode, and nothing is charged if it fails.
The suggestions come from the version your client was last sent, not version 1. A part your client had cut takes its clips with it, and a clip a cut runs through is trimmed to whole sentences, so no clip has a join in it. Suggestions that are mostly the same moment are merged into one.
2. Choose the ones to keep
Frame opens the Candidates list in the full panel, best first, each with its hook (the line it opens on) and why it was picked. For each one, choose Accept (or press A) or Reject (R). You can edit the hook and the reason, then Save hook and why.
3. Cut them
In Clips, choose Cut all accepted, or Cut on one clip. Frame:
- cuts each clip at camera resolution from Resolve, putting Resolve on the episode's project first. If Resolve can't be reached, the clip is cut from the episode file instead and scaled up, and its tile says so;
- frames each one by the faces in it: the speaker followed, two people kept together when they fit, and no face cut by the edge;
- checks each clip after cutting, and flags it with Check framing when a face isn't whole in the safe area.
4. Check the captions
Back on the card, Check the captions lists each clip that isn't captioned yet.
- Choose Check the lines on a clip. Its caption lines are written from the transcript and open in the caption editor, on the card.
- Fix any word that was missed or misspelt, then choose Save captions.
- Do the same for each clip. Each one says Checked once its lines have been opened.
Burn the captions is offered once every clip has been checked. Until then the second choice is Burn without checking.
Speaker and camera names (such as "FX30b:") never appear in a hook or a caption.
Caption preset and font
Each clip has its own caption preset, which sets how the captions look: clean, minimal or pop. To change one clip's, pick it under Caption preset in Clips and choose Re-burn: that preset is the clip's own from then on. Burning every clip uses each clip's own preset, and a clip with none yet gets the studio's default.
The Caption font is chosen once for the episode, on the Check the captions card or in Clips (Caption font, this episode), and every burn uses it. Frame includes these freely licensed fonts:
- Inter
- Lato
- Atkinson Hyperlegible
- Montserrat
- Open Sans
Or choose Each preset's own font to keep the font each preset was made with.
5. Burn
Choose Burn the captions. Frame burns the captions into each clip in its own preset and the episode's font, and writes a matching .srt file. Only accepted clips are burned; anything left from a suggestion that was merged or rejected is set aside, not sent.
If you change a clip's captions after burning it, its tile says Re-burn captions. If the clip itself changed, it says Recut.
6. Send for approval
When the clips are made, the card says Send version n to client for approval. Choose Send for approval: Frame uploads the clips and moves the job on to the client's approval.
- If fewer clips are kept than the client ordered, you get kept of ordered clips. Pick one more, with Pick from the candidates, and Send kept of ordered once the kept ones are made.
- If a clip failed its framing check, you get a card to Check the clips, or Send as they are.
